Veteran display honors those who served
LESTER, WV (WVNS) – The Fourth of July can often bring to mind barbecues, fireworks, and relaxation. Vietnam Veteran, Buck Bowling and his family have made it their mission to make sure people remember that freedom isn’t free. For the past several years on holidays like Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day, Buck has offered members of the community a chance to pull up a chair, grab a hot dog, and chat about how America came to be the country it is today.
“We’ve just got to remember all the people that had died so that we could have the freedom that we have today,” said Bowling. “So, I do this for those who gave all.”
More than 2500 American flags were put on display on the Bowlings’ property to reflect the monumental sacrifice of those who serve and have served their country. It is a sentiment echoed by another veteran, Delegate Elliott Pritt, who spoke with 59News about the importance of keeping the legacies of these men and women alive through future generations.
“That’s why it’s so important that we teach kids what it costs to keep American freedom going,” said Pritt. “That’s why it’s so important we teach them, so they understand that sacrifice and they understand how important it is.”
The Bowlings’ tribute to those who have served continues to grow each year with the addition of new flags, inflatables, and other patriotic displays. Buck has said he has no plans of slowing down and hopes to continue bringing out the display in honor of our military members.
