Israel Prison Service track down two inmates who escaped jail, to continue serving sentence
Israel Prison Service succeeded in returning two escaped inmates as it expands operations to bring fugitives to justice.
Israel Prison Service successfully carried out operations over the past few days to catch and return two escaped inmates, IPS confirmed on Thursday.
The first operation, carried out by IPS’s Maoz Unit, led to the arrest of a inmate who fled from supervisors after removing his ankle monitor. The individual was arrested in Tel Aviv on intelligence provided by Israel Police.
IPS’s Barkai Unit, whose focus is locating those who have violated their parole, handled the second operation that lead to the arrest of an inmate who escaped sentencing.
They succeeded in arrested the escapee by working in tandem with the National Guard and Israel Police to lock down and surround the inmate’s residence following a prolonged foot chase in southern Israel, IPS confirmed.
Over 240 fugitives have been re-arrested to serve out the remainder of their sentences, since the beginning of IPS’s operation to catch and return escaped inmates.

Suspected rapist arrested
In a separate instance on Saturday night, Israel Police arrested the suspected rapist of a Polish tourist who has been on the run for five years. The suspect was arrested in Beit Jala on Saturday night, and was brought to the Etzion police station for questioning.
