Brad Pitt Has Cornered the Market on Deeply Unserious Pants

We’d pay good money to peek inside Brad Pitt’s wardrobe—specifically, the drawer where he keeps all of his freaky trousers.

Over the past few months, Pitt has become the undisputed king of weird-ass trousers, which comes thanks in no small part to his occasional collaboration with celebrity stylist Taylor McNeill (who also dresses Timothée Chalamet, another weird-pants prince). Safe to say the F1 star has been on a tear, serving chaos below the waist every chance he gets.

On Wednesday, Pitt was photographed on the set of the upcoming David Fincher film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth (which is being billed as a sort-of sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 saga Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) while wearing his own clothes, and that reign showed no signs of slowing down.

Spotted at the New Beverly Cinema—a historic LA movie theater that’s now owned by the Quentin Tarantino—Pitt pulled up in an all-white tee and the trusty Converse One Stars that he wore throughout the F1 press tour. Compared to some of the Tyler Durden-coded fits he’s worn lately, the look was surprisingly…normal? But then you glance at his trousers, and everything falls back into place again.

The pants in question come from the latest drop from ERL, the Venice Beach label founded by designer-photographer Eli Russell Linnetz that’s known for its surrealist streetwear. (Kendrick Lamar and Justin Bieber are fans.) This particular pair is made in a trippy grey-and-white check print, with oversized pockets sprawled across the sides, back, and legs to store all your bits. Adjustable drawstrings at the hem let you cinch them to your liking, and everything’s finished off pre-distressed details for a vintage vibe.

It’s the latest in a growing streak of fits that feel somewhere between costume and personal style. On any given day, Pitt might show up in a velvet blazer or a tie-dye tee or a pair of loud trackpants that look look like they were fished out of a Malibu yard sale. But the through-line is clear: he’s dressing like a guy who’s not trying to impress anyone. Just having a bit of fun, one pair of unhinged trousers at a time.

In Pitt’s 2022 GQ cover story, he said he was entering “the final stages of an abundantly creative career.” And from what we’ve seen so far, those final stages are just gonna keep getting freakier and freakier from here on out.
