Community celebrates Lunar New Year at MCC
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A celebration honoring the Lunar New Year was held at Monroe Community College on Saturday.
Lunar New Year is celebrated in China and other Asian countries, with the year beginning on the first new moon of the lunar calendar.
The Asian Pacific American Public Affairs (APAPA) partnered with MCC for an afternoon of festivities under the theme “Asian Culture and Cats.” The annual event invites staff, students, and community members to gather to learn about culture and provides an environment for the Asian community to celebrate.
Attendees were treated to traditional performances, cultural art, local vendors, food, and activities.
“I feel a lot of connection with my people. I feel like as an Asian, it’s like where I belong,” Zhen Yi Lin, a featured vendor, said of the celebration. “It feels like home.”
2026 marked the third year the event has been held at MCC.
