Coroner identifies man who died in hit-and-run on Ashley River Bridge
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified Thursday the victim of a deadly vehicle versus eBike crash.
Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said 36-year-old Sherif Mahmoud, of Egypt, died at the scene from blunt force trauma. Mahmoud was operating the eBike at the time.
Officers with the Charleston Police Department responded to the Ashley River Bridge on Jan. 6 for a deadly hit-and-run crash.
Once there, officers learned that a bicyclist was traveling in the roadway when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle took off; police said neither the driver nor the vehicle had been located as of Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators are looking for a black or dark blue 2011-2015 Lincoln MKX, which may have front-end damage, such as missing pieces of the front bumper. Police say the vehicle’s last known location was the exit ramp to Lockwood Drive toward Bee Street.
The Charleston Police Department is investigating.
