Ford worker who heckled Trump won’t be disciplined or lose job

The autoworker who heckled President Trump during his visit to a Michigan plant last month will keep his job and won’t be disciplined, his union announced Monday.

Laura Dickerson, vice president of the United Auto Workers, announced at a political rally in Washington, according to a Reuters report.

“This ain’t ’The Apprentice,’” Ms. Dickerson said, referring to Mr. Trump’s television show where he fired workers with his catchphrase, “You’re fired.”

Ms. Dickerson went on to tell the crowd that the worker, TJ Sabula, still has his job and “has no discipline on his record.”

Last month, after the incident, Ms. Dickerson vowed that Mr. Sabula would keep his job and not be punished, despite calls from Mr. Trump and his allies for the worker to lose his job.

“The UAW will ensure that our member receives the full protection of all negotiated contract language safeguarding his job and his rights as a union member,” she said in a statement at the time. “Workers should never be subjected to vulgar language or behavior by anyone — including the President of the United States.”

Mr. Trump was touring Ford’s River Rouge complex in Dearborn, Michigan, when Mr. Sabula yelled “pedophile protector” in protest of the Justice Department’s slow release of files related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Mr. Sabula also repeatedly shouted at the president.

In the video posted online by TMZ, Mr. Trump yells back, “f—- you!” and then points at the worker with his middle finger before switching and flipping the worker off.

“A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the president gave an appropriate and unambiguous response,” White House communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement.

Democrats said the incident demonstrated the president’s lack of restraint and unfitness for the nation’s highest office.

Mr. Sabula has said he had “no regrets whatsoever” about yelling at the president.

After the incident, Mr. Sabula was suspended from his job pending an investigation. He said he was concerned about the future of his job and that he was “targeted for retribution” for embarrassing Mr. Trump in front of his friends.
