G-Shock Reveals Two Amazing Watches Inspired by Ancient Samurais
Nearly a millennium ago, the warriors of ancient Japan donned iron armor and helmets hardened and shaped by fire. When the metal emerged from the flames, it was not only stronger but imbued with a deep blue-green hue. That color is known in Japanese as kurogane-iro and is the inspiration for Casio’s two new G-Shocks—the MRGB2000BG-3A and MRGB2000RG3A.
Both pieces are part of the the brand’s flagship MR-G collection, and while not constructed in the Samurai’s traditional iron, the cases are cast from titanium that has gone through a deep-layer hardening process and received a green diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating to achieve their unique hue.

While the MRGB2000RG3A features durable and lightweight Drua Soft fluoro-rubber strap and titanium deployant clasp, the MRGB2000BG-3A comes on a full titanium bracelet with the same dark green DLC finish and a continuation of the kurogane-iro theme.
The dial’s design echoes the aesthetic of a traditional Japanese folding fan or screen and is accented with gold indexes, MR-G logo and sword-style hands. Two of the watches’ trio of sub-dials are accented in fern green, while the 24-hour counter and date window utilize a more subtle black and white motif for balance. Both pieces utilize Sallaz polish finishing, a deep-layer-hardening treatment on the case, as well as a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Gold pushers and screws lend an air of bi-metal sophistication befitting the MR-G line.

Of course, as they are G-Shocks, both pieces are buttressed against impact damage to the movement. But the duo is also outfitted with a bevy of additional features including, ISO 764-Complient Magnetic Resistance, a 200 meter depth rating, smart access crown, Tough Polar Power, an app controlled bluetooth smartphone link, a Super Illuminator LED light, a 1 second countdown timer and stopwatch ( maximum of 24 hours) as well as a daily alarm. Each watch is automatically synced to an atomic clock via a multi-band six radio controlled system (when in range), and uses a dual time function that can clock 27 different time zones.
Both the MRGB2000BG-3A and MRGB2000RG3A are available at select jewelers, gshock.com, and the G-Shock Soho store, each for $3,300.
