Harry Styles’s Grandma-Chic Chanel Bag Is Worth Copying
We’ve seen more of Harry Styles in the past week and a half than we have in two years. Thanks to the release of his new album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, Styles has popped out of his hibernation like a beautiful and well-dressed groundhog, primed to supply his fans with a season’s worth of entertainment—and outfit inspiration.
Together with his long-term stylist Harry Lambert, Styles has been sharing the wealth across brands, too. There’s been custom Celine, new-era Dior, a little Miu Miu, a Chanel suit lifted right off model Alex Consani for the Brit Awards.
But, it turns out, that suit wasn’t the only thing the 32-year-old pop star pinched from Matthieu Blazy’s Metiers d’art 2026 collection. In New York City this week, where he’s been swanning around with his girlfriend Zoë Kravitz (seething with jealousy, thank you!) ahead of his upcoming Saturday Night Live hosting duties, Styles stepped out carrying a Chanel bag fresh from the runway. On top of his fit—blue jeans, loafers from The Row, a navy sweater—the singer threw an oversized, yet-to-be-released Chanel 25 leopard-print flap bag over the shoulder.
Men wearing women’s bags isn’t all that new. Pedro Pascal toted around a black leather tote at a Chanel show last year, while Gen-Z cool kids like The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Christopher Briney have been known to add a little underarm bag to fashion-week fits.
But there’s something about this Chanel bag. It’s not a neutral piece that just happens to be from the women’s line; this is a bag we’ve seen carried mostly by divorced octogenarians with posh townhouses and yappy little dogs. This is a bag that usually houses personalized handkerchiefs, half a pack of Werther’s Originals, and six to seven discontinued bullet lipsticks. It’s carried by women who call you “pet” unironically and pat your cheek. In other words: It’s an old lady handbag.
Which is exactly why it’s the flex you think it is. On Styles, on top of his sharp, clean fit, it reads like a beautiful exclamation point. A good-looking bag that reads practical, where the brag is subtle but unmissable—this collection isn’t even in stores yet, and won’t be until June. You can’t buy this bag even if you want to. And when you can, it won’t be an easy buy: A Chanel flap bag of his size (the “Maxi,” by the way) starts from around $8,500—and that’s not even factoring in exotic finishes like his.
We haven’t considered biting style off of grandmas for ages. But if anyone’s gonna make us consider it, Styles’ll do.
