Police have said they are assessing information about financial links between Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Jeffrey Epstein after files released by the US justice department showed the former prince shared substantial information with the child sex offender while a trade representative and a working royal.

Thames Valley Police, the force covering the Windsor area where Mountbatten-Windsor lived for many years, said it was “assessing” information about his business conduct after anti-monarchy group Republic submitted reports.

The FT and other media outlets have reported how in 2010 Mountbatten-Windsor forwarded to Epstein reports that had been compiled for him in his official role as a trade representative ahead of a visit to China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam.

“We . . . are assessing the information in line with our established procedures,” the force said on Monday.
