My preferred genre is late-night TV performances. That’s what I find myself coming back to. It’s almost a music video in its own way.
For sure. I just went to the Grand National Tour, the Kendrick/SZA tour. It’s like all these mega tours now, it’s really impressive. It’s like watching a video being made. There’s 35 dancers, it’s very choreographed, there are eight cameras. It’s just a crazy shoot. It’s a shoot in front of 50,000 people.
100 percent. It’s a full production every night. And when it gets that big, it has to be.
Not only are there 35 dancers, but they do five wardrobe changes, so there’s a whole wardrobe department. They do hair and makeup. They have a whole camera crew. It’s like a traveling city of a production.
It takes an army.
I want to do that. If someone’s seeing this, I want that job.
You could definitely do it. I know people who have done it. The touring part is usually what people won’t do. They’re happy to direct it, but if you have to direct it every night…
I never saw what Spike did with Frank Ocean, but everyone loved it.
