Temperatures to peak near 37 degrees Celsius in Germany

Germany is facing another day of extreme heat on Thursday, with temperatures expected to peak around 37 degrees Celsius in south-western regions, the German Weather Service (DWD) said.

Only some northern regions will see slightly milder highs of 25 degrees to 30 degrees.

Cloud cover and isolated morning showers are expected in the western and north-western parts of the country, while most other areas will remain sunny and mostly dry. In the afternoon and evening, scattered thunderstorms triggered by the heat could develop, especially in higher terrain.

The weather service said that storms with heavy rain, hail and strong winds were possible on Thursday night in north-western regions, with thunderstorms and rain also possible in the south-west and west.

Night-time temperatures are expected to drop to around 16 degrees in many areas, and as low as 13 degrees in southern parts of the country.
