Tyler, the Creator and Converse Are About to Make Torpedo Sneakers Even Hotter

Tyler, the Creator has always done things differently. You don’t become one of the great creative minds of a generation playing it safe. He’s been a sonic innovator since the early days of Odd Future and has only become more iconoclastic and experimental as a musician since, with his latest album Chromakopia representing some of his most left-of-center work yet. He’s also long been considered one of the best-dressed dudes on the planet as one of the foremost innovators in the field of dressing like a granddad. That ethos carries into his latest collaboration with Converse, one that reaches deep into the brand’s archive to revive some silhouettes likely worn by many a modern-day granddad in their younger days.

Tyler’s work with Converse, under his Golf le Fleur banner, has included some of the coolest releases of the past decade. Since jumping ship from Vans in 2017, Tyler has worked on all the iconic Converse silhouettes you’d expect, like Chuck Taylors and One Stars. But for this latest drop, the partners are launching a new imprint called Converse 1908, which will revive long-forgotten sneakers from the brand’s rich history. It’s the perfect fit for Tyler, a true fashion historian who likely wouldn’t have felt fulfilled remixing the same Converse shoes ad nauseum.

The first model to get the Tyler treatment is the Converse Naut-1, a boating shoe that first debuted way back in the ’70s. It’s a sleek, simple canvas silhouette with a vulcanized rubber sole. Tyler’s touch comes in the form of some loud prints and colors, with the revival featuring four colorways—baby blue (offset with a stunning off-white sole and laces), brown, a minimal floral print on a cream upper, and an all-over pattern featuring Darryl, an Airedale Terrier likely familiar to anyone who’s seen prior Golf le Fleur campaigns.

On the other end of the collection is the Converse Coach Jogger. Originally launched in 1976, it’s an archival runner with a nylon upper, wedged sole, and a T-shaped overlay on the toe—a perfect match for the torpedo sneaker trend that has dominated 2025. Tyler’s revival of the silhouette comes in three stellar versions: baby blue with a blue sole, green with a gum sole, and a rich aged brown with a gum sole. It’s the standout of his entire tenure at Converse and a lock for sneaker of the year conversations later in 2025.

You can shop the debut releases from Tyler, the Creator’s Converse 1908 line via Converse and Golf le Fleur on June 20.
